Minty green accent walls.

The house is one step closer to being a home. Yep, we have been in there for almost two years and I'm still not done. Will I ever be? No, prolly not.

A couple weeks ago we painted the trim/floorboards on the main floor of our house (doing the whole thing was too intimidating of a feat). That part was boring compared to what came next. AN ACCENT WALL. I'm so sick of one tone, boring color paint across the house. Plus, I sort of love painting.

This wall runs from the living room into the kitchen. I decided to do the whole thing mint green (actual color is sea anemone by Martha Stewart, mixed by Behr, because it was cheaper).

 What else would I have done with all the leftover paint swatches, but frame them and hang it on my wall collage?

This is what our house looks like (well, before we moved in). The kitchen is so dark. Ever since I saw the cabinets with the black appliances for the first time, I have been slightly regretful that we chose those colors while we were building. So dang dreary, so I'm always trying to find ways to brighten it up (i.e. the potholder wall). This accent wall (paired with the new white trim) worked beautifully. It's much brighter in there now.

Chris likes modern, clean walls. One color. Nothing too exciting. But even he was thrilled with the outcome of this wall. I was shocked when these words came out of his mouth: "It might be fun to do a tangerine accent wall somewhere in the house."

Over the couch.

Not much going on on the home decor front at my house. I am slowly but surely adding pieces to my above-the-couch decor. This is what it looked like when we first started hanging things. And now, after a few new pieces:

 I found this little magnet board for $2 at the craft store clearance section. I thought it would be a fun way display photos and other little things. Plus, this way it can be changed out regularly. (Though I doubt I will take grandpa's photo down.) We hung it with a decorative wall tack.

My bff Winter gave me this frame. We put lace-printed craft paper inside. I think it adds cool pattern and color to the eclectic wall.

We will continue to build onto this arrangement. As you can see,there's lots of wall space to cover. 

Our home: it's been a year!

So it's been a year. One year down, being homeowners. I couldn't ask for a better situation. I love our neighbors. To our right we have considerate, cute, young Nabors who don't hesitate to do date night with us. To our left we have kind, caring Steve who's the dad to Otis (Sam's best bud). Steve brought us dinner the other night while we were out painting the garage walls. Green chili enchiladas. YUMARAMA.

I love our HOA community and the fact we don't have to do yard work. We have beautifully landscaped grass and trees all around us.

The house. Oh we love the house. It's new, we picked out everything in it, we built it and lived in it and filled it with love and decorated with care. Don't worry though--decorating is not complete. (I am painting accent walls soon!)

Our mortgage is reasonable. I'm so glad we bought when we did.

I love that Farmington recycles and we have our own bin for that stuff. (No more driving to the facilities and sorting it all myself.)

Thank goodness we have Sam, and hopefully another dog (soon!) to keep him company when we're making a living.

We've come a long way since our first night. Remember when I was thrilled to have walls? Our roots are here now and it's everything we hoped for and more. Go us!
